The South Korean
automaker unveiled the SP signature SUV at the 2019 Seoul Motor Show. Kia Motorsshowcased the SP Concept at the 2018 Delhi
Auto Expo and the SUV attracted a lot of eyeballs there. SP Concept will be the
first vehicle to be launched by Kia in the Indian market and a number of test
mules have already been spied testing in India. The displayed SP Signature
Concept shares a lot of resemblance to the near-production ready SP2i SUV which
will be manufactured at Kia Motors India's first manufacturing plant at
Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh.
The SP Signature Concept
reveals a number of design elements and features that will make their way on
the production-spec SP2i SUV. SP Signature Concept still carries the dual-tone
wing mirrors, dual-tone colour scheme, Tiger-nose grill, LED lights and the big
19-inch wheels. But, the SP Signature Concept is also a bit different than the
Kia SP Concept showcased in Delhi. The SUV will be made available in two engine
options - 1.5-litre Petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. Both the engines will be BS-VI
ready, however, will be BS-IV compliant at the time of India launch. The
engines will get a manual and automatic gearbox options. Kia might introduce a
sportier version of the car with an automatic 7-speed, dual-clutch gearbox
equipped with paddle-shifters for the enthusiastic drivers.
Kia cars are known for
their futuristic designs, cutting-edge technology, great packaging and
practicality. This assures that SP2i's interiors will be high on quality and it
will also receive some segment first features. The interiors may get a fully
digital instrument cluster, a large infotainment screen, ambient lighting,
wireless charging and front-rear parking cameras. Kia is expected to launch the SP SUV at a price tag between Rs. 14 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh
(ex-showroom). The SUV will be up against Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Tata Harrier and Renault Captur.
